Mimi Prober is a New York city based artist, designer, and the founder of the signature label 'Mimi Prober', creating modern handcrafted garments using recovered antique textiles dating from the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. Mimi Prober uses natural fibers, organic dyes acquired from the earth, and favors the intricacies of textiles that are handmade, as this establishes the story and connection to the artists who came before us and their unique craft. By combining recovered antique materials and employing hand-sewn techniques, artistically designed sustainable garments are created that achieve zero waste and captures the irreplaceable history for a new generation that would have otherwise been lost with these forgotten fragments.
As a Coordinator of Education at Manufacture New York, Mimi provides access to educational initiatives that engage the community, with the goal of utilizing Manufacture New York’s platform and facilities to provide accessible fashion based education.
